For me, painting is a dovetailing together of the use of paint in its many possibiliities (from the first thinly-applied runny washes to the thicker definite brush strokes and loose details), the compositional lines and shapes and the colour scheme to suggest the atmosphere of a specific time of day and time of year - all of these qualities flow together to give a definite remembered landscape idea.
